I have been privileged to coach two youth slam teams in Columbus for the last several years. I currently coach at the high school and collegiate levels.
I have been a facilitator, mentor, and coach with Mosaic, a high school group made up of juniors and seniors built on the principle of learning through creativity and experience.
With Ohio State, I am the coach of their National Poetry Slam Team with competes at the College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational.
My responsibilities for both groups include creating and administering writing prompts, editing drafts of poems, and critiquing and teaching performance skills. While we focus mostly on poetic writing and performance, my goal is to give them skills that will help them write in any manner and be able to feel more confident when speaking in front of any crowd. I have also had the privilege of leading class discussions on creative writing as well as book discussions.
